Here are some fresh edits from my shoot with the lovely Destin. She has a great eye for art, so it was easy to communicate what I wanted to her. She really is a remarkable young woman, beautiful, fit, and wicked smart.
I met her at a wedding at the Mentone Springs Hotel in the spring of 2013. She was a guest of the couple, and I was immediately struck by her beauty, physical fitness, and charisma. She had an unmistakable presence. I knew I wanted to know her better and photograph her. Luckily, she didn’t dismiss me as some old weirdo.
This was my third shoot with Destin. Our first collaboration was in June 2013 at Sylvania Lake, our second happened in September 2013 at the fairgrounds during fall carnival week.
We’ve remained friends over the past seven years, mostly talking about politics and art during that time. She has developed personally as a yoga teacher.
She was present during my end of summer shoot with Dallas and Kori in September 2018, but she did not do any modeling that day.
I was tickled when she informed me this past week that Sports Illustrated was doing an Instagram hashtag contest seeking submissions in which IG users attempted to recreate classic covers. She was game, so we finally connected at beautiful DeSoto Falls.
I could not be more tickled with the results. I hope she is too and we get to do this again soon. This is one person you want to watch as she has a very bright future ahead of her.
After months of cold, wet weather, followed by isolation during the pandemic, I needed this. I needed to get outside in the sunshine doing what I love to do, being creative at one of my favorite places with one of my favorite people.
