Fort Payne AL events
The City of Fort Payne’s Independence Day Celebration is always a highlight, but this free event on Thursday, July 1, will be extra special this year with the return of in-person activities at the Sports Complex at 101 45thStreet NE, plus a performance by the Alabama tribute band, Boys in the Band, who did two sold old shows in recent years. The event from 7:30-9 p.m. The fireworks show can be viewed from the venue or from any of the parking lots at surrounding schools and businesses. The City of Rainsville will host the Freedom Fest on Saturday, June 26, at the Field of Dreams behind the Northeast Alabama Agri-business center. Activities starting at 1 p.m. that Saturday will include a car, truck and motorcycle show, 2 p.m. free kids activities such as face-painting, pony rides, inflatables, photo booth, rock climbing wall and mechanical bull. Entertainment begins at 1 p.m. for those who want to bring folding chairs or blankets to sit on. The City of Henagar will be celebrating its 39th Annual Potato Festival on Saturday, July 3 with crafts, games, food and a parade. Live music will be provided by Steve Kerley and Band, Elisha Tatum and Derek Whisenant, The Hindmans, Jordan’s Crossing, Dusty Smith, State Route 71 and the Carl Childers Band. Also scheduled to appear will be Lisa Shrader, recently crowned as Miss Potato Festival, and other pageant winners including Baby Miss Tater Tot Keziah Lynn Wyatt, Mini Miss Tater Tot McKinley Potts, Tiny Miss Tater Tot Alexis Norwood, Little Miss Tater Tot Hadley Patterson, Miss Tater Tot Jacelyn Fayeth Ann Obenlander, Pre-Teen Miss Potato Festival Lindsay Davis and Junior Miss Potato Festival Emma Campbell Crawford. The Town of Crossville’s Stars & Stripes Corn Hole Tournament will be Saturday, July 3 at 5 p.m. Signups start at 4:30 p.m. There will be first and second place cash prizes awarded. Fee is $25 per team. For more information, call (256) 528-7121.
The Town of Fyffe announced that the Fyffe Church of God will hold a fireworks show and offer free hot dogs to those who attend on Sunday, July 4. Activities are planned from 5-9 p.m., including inflatables for children, homemade ice cream, and gospel singing, according to church secretary/administrator Imogene Bradley. Third Saturday Sunset Cruise-Ins
Each third Saturday of the month, downtown Fort Payne is closed off and lined with more than 200 antique cars and trucks as everyone turns out for food, live music, vendors, and family-friendly fun. Events for 2021 will be held June 19, July 17, August 21.
Summer Music Series: Music for the People
Appearing this summer on the lawn of the Mentone Inn’s Linger Longer Pavilion are the Black Sedan Band on June 26, Natti Love Joys on July 24, Jess Goggans Band on August 7, and a music showcase on Sept. 25. All shows are from 7-10 pm. Fish fry and smoked meats will be available from Fontastic Foods. The music series is presented by the Little River Arts Council. Rainsville Freedom Run
The annual Rainsville Freedom Run is slated for Saturday, June 19 and will include a 5K, 10K, 5K Elite and 10K Elite. For additional information and to register visit runsignup.com and search Rainsville Freedom Run 10K and 5K.
Fyffe UFO Days 5K and Festival

Collinsville Trade Day
This event on Saturdays is Collinsville’s big draw with all sorts of stuff to be found. Go early if you want to get the good stuff! Located at 1102 South Valley Avenue, Collinsville, Alabama. Hours are 4:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
Fort Payne Farmer’s Market
One advantage to being a rural county is that we have multiple places to source premium fresh local vegetables, fruit, and meat. The long-running DeKalb County Farmers Market is held at the fairgrounds at 151 18th Street in Fort Payne every Tuesday and Friday between 3-6 p.m. between the months of June to September. The newer Main Street Farmers Market is located on the corner of 5th and Gault Ave N. across from the Fort Payne Coal & Iron building and operates Saturdays between 7 a.m.-12 p.m. and Tuesdays between 5-8 p.m. Another local farmers market is every Tuesday between 7-11 a.m. in the parking lot of Tractor Supply at 100 DeKalb Plaza in Fort Payne. There are also separate farmer’s markets operating in Rainsvillle, Mentone and Henagar, as well as some set up outside individual businesses in the county.
US 11 Antique Alley Yard Sale
The 502-mile Antique Alley Yard Sale on scenic U.S. Highway 11 between Mississippi to Virginia is held each May on the four-day weekend (Thursday – Sunday) following Mother’s Day. We see folks drive in with trailers in tow to carry home the treasures they find in DeKalb County AL yard sales. For more information, visit http://www.us11antiquealley.com.
World’s Longest Yard Sale
Another long yard sale, this time atop Lookout Mountain on the 127 Corridor between six states, happening August 5-8, 2021. Some people rent their fields to vendors, some set up booths in their yards. Others take advantage of empty roadside buildings each year. You’ll see a wide variety of sellers, buyers and merchandise.
